Dr Alan Wigg
Dr Wigg graduated in medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1992. He trained in gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre, obtaining his fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1999.
Dr Wigg’s training in endoscopy and colonoscopy was recognized by the Conjoint Committee of the Gastroenterolgy Society of Australia (GESA) in 1998, and his training in endoscopic retrograde pancreatography (ERCP) was recognized in 2003.
Following his training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Dr Wigg undertook further postgraduate training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and was awarded a PhD from Flinders University in 2004. A period of postdoctoral training occurred in the United Kingdom during 2003 and 2004.
Dr Wigg returned to Adelaide in 2004 and begun private practice with Southern Gastrointestinal Services. His other current roles are as Head of the Hepatology and Liver Transplantation Medicine Unit at Flinders Medical Centre and Senior Lecturer at Flinders University. Dr Wigg also performs endoscopic procedures at Repatriation General Hospital and works with the Medical Specialist Outreach Assistance Program as a Visiting Gastroenterologist to the Riverland Regional Hospital.
Dr Wigg has broad experience in general gastroenterology and Hepatology and endoscopic procedures. He also has broad research interests as reflected by his publications and awards.
